The anticipation for each year’s olive harvest begins with the first buds of the olive blossoms in May. Throughout the summer, the fruits of the olive trees grow plump under the hot Sicilian sun, and our excitement grows as we near harvest in September. Working in a closed-loop-system, when harvest ramps up, so too does production, and we’re graced with the first taste of that year’s fresh green elixir. The initial expression of our same-day cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil is what we all look forward to.
Along with olive oil producers from around the world, we submit each year’s harvest into internationally recognized blind tasting olive oil competitions to determine who has grown, pressed, and bottled the best oils that year. We’re proud that Bona Furtuna extra virgin olive oils continue to make their mark at these competitions. This year, we received twenty tasting awards, maintaining our position as the best sustainable organic olive oil producer in Sicily.
