We brought the Biancolilla Centinara olive back from the brink of extinction with the help of Dr. Pasqual "Mimmo" Marino, Chief Scientist of Bona Furtuna. Mimmo rediscovered this ancient varietal, and it remains a farm highlight.

With strong vegetal qualities and notes of wild herbs and dried flowers, this Sicilian single-varietal extra virgin olive oil is fantastic alone or as an accent to heavier dishes.


Hints of Wild Flowers and Herbs

Crafted at a single source on La Furtuna Estate in the Sicani Mountain region, our Biancolilla Centinara 100% organic artisan olive oil hosts medium fluidity, with medium-green fruitiness and hints of wild herbs and dried flowers.

Offering powerfully balanced bitterness and pungency, this single-origin Italian olive oil shares the aroma of tomato, fresh grass, almond and artichoke.


Rediscovered by Dr. Pasquale Marino

While working to preserve heritage plants at the University of Palermo in Sicily, Mimmo rediscovered the Biancolilla Centinara olive tree. Post revitalization, this tree now thrives and its single-varietal olive oil is sourced exclusively from La Furtuna Estate. 

Meaning “ancient white lilac,” the Biancolilla Centinara tree lends to a very complex and layered oil that couples together two traditional Sicilian olive varietals, the Biancolilla and the Nocellara del Belice.

I purchase olive oils that win the New York Olive Oil Competition Gold Medals [and previous Best in Class that they no longer use as a rank]. That being my experience in tasting olive oils, I would put the BIANCOLILLA CENTINARA in the very best olive oils I've had the pleasure of tasting. The nose is bright, sweet, with hints of berry and at times milk chocolate. The taste is that of buttery almond confection -- i.e. martzipan -- with hints of tea [mild mild grassy tones]. There is mild piquancy on the finish. Beautiful olive oil.
