WHAT’S IN A NAME 

For co-founder Steve Luczo, bona furtuna serves as a loving family memory. As a child, his grandfather would kiss him on the cheek and say bona furtuna as they parted ways. It’s the Sicilian dialect exchanged in lieu of more formal farewells bidding the receiver good luck and good health. As a young Sicilian-American, saying bona furtuna connected Steve to his Sicilian roots and made him feel closer to his family and heritage.

Naming the company Bona Furtuna not only honors his grandfather’s well wishes, it is the driving purpose and guide for the mission and vision. From the producers we work with, the ingredients we source, and the preservation efforts we support, we are upholding the name to share in the goodwill of our communities and our planet. With every bite of Bona Furtuna, we wish you good luck, good health, and good life. Bona furtuna.

A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDERS

Every year, as we continue to make choices that put our planet first, we’ve found that these choices not only benefit our earth, but they are also the best sustaining options for our business.

In 2025 we finalized our structured recycling program and policy for all of our controlled facilities to recycle 100% of recyclable materials, working with a larger recycling program for our shared office building. We also transitioned 90% of freight into ocean freight or ground shipping across all of our sourcing activities including packaged food, packaging, and promotional materials as we continue our efforts of sustainability within our operations.

We’re proud of our achievements to date and continue to build better practices that deliver positive results for our planet and communities to drive us forward.
