Not all pestos are green. Pesto comes from the Italian word Pestare, meaning to grind. In Sicily, the most famous pesto is pesto allá trapanese, from the Mediterranean town of Trapani, Sicily. Adding tomatoes and swapping pine nuts for almonds, Sicilians took the pesto alla genovese and made a dish that's uniquely their own.
Enjoy some of the finest artisan food in Italy with this month’s organic subscription. Discover the native Sicilian Biancolilla Centinara EVOO, Basil Salt from Italy’s “salt road” in Trapani, artisan pastas and our brand new Tomato Almond Bruschetta and Cacio E Pepe seasoning. Includes delicious recipes for Cacio e Pepe and the classic Sicilian dish of Busiate alla Trapanese.
Hints of Wild Flowers and Herbs
Crafted at a single source on La Furtuna Estate in the Sicani Mountain region, our Biancolilla Centinara 100% organic artisan olive oil hosts medium fluidity, with medium-green fruitiness and hints of wild herbs and dried flowers.
Offering powerfully balanced bitterness and pungency, this single-origin Italian olive oil shares the aroma of tomato, fresh grass, almond and artichoke.
Tantalizing Twists of Authenticity
With a touch of sweetness, herbal hints, sunkissed grain, and accents of cinnamon, Bona Furtuna Busiate provides a great al dente texture and elastic structure. Representative to what humans have been eating for thousands of years and easy for digestion, feel the nutritional benefits of ancient grain pasta in every bite. Impeccably paired with pestos and seafood, “Busiate with Trapanese Pesto” is a pleasingly light yet flavorsome dinner.
A Pinch of Fresh Flavor
Freshly herbaceous in both flavor and aroma, our Sicilian Sea Salt with Organic Basil is a go-to finishing salt for lighter fare. Flaky and crystalline grains of sea salt are harvested from the Mediterranean, infused with essential oils from our estate-grown Italian basil, and await blissful consumption. Sprinkle this organic basil salt seasoning onto a nourishing caprese salad, pair with delectable ditalini pasta, or use as a finish to a traditional margherita pizza to satisfy all of your cravings.
A Deliciously Savory Rendition
With the addition of alliums, our Cacio e Pepe seasoning is packed with flavor. Black pepper bursts through the salty-savory body, while the sweet taste of onion and garlic carries on throughout. Added to your favorite pasta with a healthy dose of freshly grated pecorino, or used to season grilled chicken and fish, our Cacio e Pepe seasoning offers you a deliciously savory rendition of the historic dish.
A Twirl of Tradition
With a touch of sweetness, herbal hints, sun kissed grain, and accents of cinnamon, Bona Furtuna Spaghetti provides a great al dente texture and elastic structure. Representative to what humans have been eating for thousands of years and easy for digestion, feel the nutritional benefits of ancient grain pasta in every bite. Thick enough to brace a hearty meat sauce, yet thin enough to enjoy with a cream sauce, spaghetti’s multiplicity also invites a light olive oil and garlic dressing. Simplistic and savory, “Spaghetti e Aglio e Oglio” will ignite your senses with minimal preparation.

I ordered the 6-month subscription for my parents and am not disappointed. Each recipe is specifically curated and ingredients are especially sourced and chosen to enhance the dish. Expect to buy all the fresh ingredients yourself - but that is not a detractor for this box. You can substitute for your own dried ingredients, but there really is a difference, so just get the fresh ones. My only comment would be that for smaller dishes, like the risotto, more ingredients should be included. This is a premium box and I did not expect that 70 percent of the ingredients needed to be purchased for a dish like that. All of the olive oils included, in particular, are superlative - fresh, bright, and clean. 4 out of 5 stars and an absolute must buy subscription!!
